Gambhir excels but same story repeats in India’s third test with Sri Lanka
Once again India couldn’t capitalize after good opening stand between Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir and are all out for 249 off 80 overs in their first innings. The middle order composed of senior Trio failed yet again to make any mark in the series and their batting average is just over 15 runs per innings. Dammika Prasad, a new Sri Lankan pacer, picked up the wickets of Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar. Gambhir battled lonely with a confident 72 off 128 balls before Ajantha Mendis picked up his wicket as LBW. Zaheer Khan and Ishant Sharma frustrated Sri Lankan bowlers for 20 overs and scored 51 for the last wicket. Mendis finished with 5/56. Sri Lanka lost the wicket of Warnapura and closed the day with 14/1 off 8 overs.
Score:
India (1st innings): 249 all out in 80 overs (Gambhir 72, Mendis 5/56, Prasad 3/82)
Sri Lanka (1st innings): 14/1 (Ishant 1/2)
